Development of the Collgar Wind Farm produced economic benefits for the Merredin region well before the first megawatt of electricity was generated. Scientists, planning consultants and company executives visited the area for multiple years during the development stage, providing income for the accommodation and service sectors.
During the construction phase up to 200 jobs were created, having a large spin off for the local accommodation and services sectors. There will also be an ongoing financial boost during the life of the wind farm through land related payments, community projects and sponsorship.
The wind farm provides ongoing employment for a team of 10-20 local people required to operate and maintain the project.
