Community Fund News: Level 2 Funding Recipients Announced for Quarter 3, 2022

The Collgar Community Fund (CCF) Committee met on 9 August 2022 and approved four Level 2 community applications for Quarter 3 2022. A Level 2 application is anything over $2,500 and applications are considered on a quarterly basis.

Collgar is pleased to confirm the Level 2 funding recipients for the third quarter in 2022 are;

Northam Central TAFE: Indigenous Australian Student Learning Hub

Central Regional TAFE in Northam is the main training facility in the Avon Region, offering training services to the towns of Northam and Shires of Toodyay, York, Goomalling and Dowerin.

The grant has been awarded for the purpose of an Indigenous Australian Student Leaning Hub. It is critical to have a system and program in place for the local and wider Indigenous Australian communities in the Wheatbelt to come together and engage with and build relationships with TAFE lecturers and get a feel of the campus environment through informal learning activities.

This is an an entry pathway for VET qualifications that lead into training opportunities and employability skills, and will directly contribute to Closing the Gap.

Collgar embraces initiatives like these as they have a positive and lasting impact in the community.

The Country Women's Association of WA, Nukarni Branch: Refurbishment of CWA Building

Nukarni CWA is a Branch of the Country Women's Association of Western Australia and is a not-for-profit organisation. The Aim of the CWA is to improve the well being of all people, especially those in country areas by promoting co-operation, community effort, ethical standards and the wise use of resources. Through the State Office the CWA also support many areas of need such as cancer sufferers, hospitals, nursing homes, families in need, educational and well being aids, droughts, fires and floods.

Collgar is very pleased to support the CWA in the painting and refurbishment of the Merredin CWA building, which has been used by the CWA since 1936, and will be beneficial to many groups in the community for use.

The Merredin Community Resource Centre: Picture Perfect Memories

Merredin CRC is a not for profit, community organisation that encourages community spirit, supports volunteers, organises community events, provides government and community information, services and facilities for the community and produces The Phoenix newspaper.

The CRC works in conjunction with other organisations and the Shire, to ensure the community is catered for and events and services are available.

With this grant the Merredin CRC can continue to provide photo printing services to the Merredin Community. There are no other printing services in the community currently.

Collgar is happy to support initiatives that give regional communities opportunities to have access to all types of services.

A Choired Taste: Visiting Music Directors

A Choired Taste is a vibrant local community choir in Merredin, catering for a wide variety of musical tastes including musicals, pop, country, jazz, soul, and acapella. Since the choir’s formation in 2008, the choir have been able to provide the community with a group of choristers for any event such as Australia Day Breakfast, ANZAC services, Christmas Carols, Merredin Markets, Country Hoedown weekend, birthday events, and more.

This grant allows the group to upskill with visiting music directors to Merredin fortnightly, as well as hold community singing events.

This initiative is not just about having somewhere to sing, but to come together as a group, support one another and have fun together. Singing is good for the soul and benefits all those involved (choristers and audience members).

Collgar loves to sponsor initiatives that bring together the community in a positive, educational and fun way!

Well done to all grant recipients!
